Visible colour cannot reveal every recessive or hidden gene. For accurate breeding decisions, use verified pedigrees, appropriate DNA colour testing and guidance from a veterinary genetics professional.
Never plan a dapple-to-dapple (merle-to-merle) mating from this guide. Double dapple offspring can have a substantially increased risk of serious hearing and vision problems; cryptic merle may not be visually obvious.
About DNA profiles: Paternity and parentage DNA profiles confirm identity or relationships, but they do not normally provide coat-colour gene results. A dedicated canine coat-colour panel must be specifically ordered.
How this estimate works
The guide gives equal weight to the dam and sire, then uses grandparent colours and optional visible traits as smaller clues. It ranks compatible colour families and reports pattern observations separately. It does not calculate genotypes, health, coat type or litter size.
